El Paso Tool Rental publishes fifteen specification lines for the mini excavator it rents by the day: 13.5 horsepower, 2,205 pounds, 900 pounds of lift, 5 feet 9 inches of dig depth, a cab with a fan. It goes out for $225.00 a day.

HUAYEE sells one that weighs 2,060 pounds behind the same 13.5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton for $7,499.00. Its product page publishes six numbers about the machine. Dig depth is not one.

Divide price by rate and the purchase pays for itself on the 34th rental day. That is the easy part.

The Machine

The HY14C is a 1.4-ton-class tracked excavator with a hydraulic thumb and a side-swing boom on 7-inch rubber tracks. HUAYEE rates it for 30-degree grades, puts 0.3 kpa/cm² on the ground and gives the hydraulics a 4-gallon reservoir. Over the seat: four bars and a roof — a canopy, not the enclosed cab the yard rents.

The listing is $7,499.00 against a struck-through $8,299.00, twenty-eight units showing, "availability": "http://schema.org/InStock" in the page’s structured data and a live Add to cart button. A theme can print that button on a dead product, so we checked a control: the same store’s HY12F renders it disabled, reading Sold out. This one does not.

Shipping is free to the lower 48 out of Corona, California and Pennsauken, New Jersey, and takes 15 to 30 business days. Warranty is one year from the date of shipment, with support by phone and email for life and parts after year one on the customer. There is no dealer in that sentence.

The Numbers

Straight across on that one Texas card, $7,499.00 is 33.33 rental days — the 34th pays it off — 8.33 weeks or 4.76 months. In four-hour blocks — the unit a yard prices for a morning’s work, at 0.73 of a full day — it is 46 of them.

Those are not the same bet, because renting gets cheaper per day the longer you keep it. El Paso’s week costs exactly 4 day-rates and its month exactly 7, so a rented week is $128.57 a day. Priced against that, the break-even moves to 58.33 working days.

Now put it on a calendar. Ten rental days a year — a trench, a stump, a culvert — takes 3.33 years to reach the price. Twenty takes 1.67. Neither fits inside a one-year warranty.

What Breaks

The numbers that decide whether it reaches your trench are not published. Seven of the fifteen lines on El Paso’s page are figures HUAYEE does not print for the machine it sells: lift capacity, length, height, max dig depth, max vertical dig depth, max dig height, max dump height. All seven are DATA NOT AVAILABLE FROM SOURCE. You rent a machine knowing it goes down 5 feet 9 inches. You buy this one and find out.

The yard is not consistent either. Its spec table says Engine Type: Gas; the paragraph under that same table calls it a “Briggs & Stratton 13.5HP Diesel Engine,” and the bucket is 14 inches above and 16 below. It is the gap the stump grinder report found at this counter: the rate is audited by a cash register, the machine behind it is not.

Renting includes the mechanic. El Paso troubleshoots by phone and takes the machine back; its published penalties are $35 a day for a holdover and $50 for returning it filthy. That is the whole downside. After month twelve, the HY14C’s is a parts quote and a freight bill from a company with warehouses and no dealers.

Nothing here moves itself. 2,060 pounds is a trailer either way. El Paso delivers “for an additional fee” and does not publish it; HUAYEE ships free, once, to the address on the order. Both numbers sit outside both columns, and this report has neither.

Every figure above is cash. No interest, no depreciation, no resale — and resale is where an import without a dealer network is most exposed: the next buyer inherits the same blank spec sheet.

Who Should Buy This

The owner who already has the barn. This is the property that priced a snow robot against a plow contract on Saturday: a long private drive, somewhere to keep a tracked machine, services that arrive by the visit. The trench and the culvert arrive the same way.

The buyer who has run this comparison before. The PTO generator report had to correct its count for capacity: the rental house stocked 17 kW against the 25 kW being bought. Here the correction is zero — 2,205 pounds against 2,060 is 145 pounds, 7% of what is bought. This money does not buy a bigger machine. It buys the one in the barn on a Sunday.

Anyone whose count is already above thirty. Twelve days on last year’s receipts and the counter wins. Forty, and only the dig depth is left.

Not for: the one-weekend job, where $225.00 ends it. Not for anyone who needs it this month: delivery runs 15 to 30 business days. Not for work near the bottom of a reach HUAYEE does not state. And not for anyone who wants somebody else to own the repair.

Budget the bucket, because the listing does not say which one ships: the 8-inch toothed bucket at $175.00 trenches and the 32-inch toothless at $288.00 grades, both listed for 1 to 1.8-ton machines. Both, and the entry is $7,962.00.

If that swap happens often, the mechanical quick coupler at $188.00 keeps a bucket change from costing an hour and a pin.
